A glimpse into the journal I kept for all 38 days on the Camino Frances, including up to 10 photos (not necessarily the best pictures but more that they represent that day in some particular way). Today is day 30 – May 20th. Ponferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo
Yesterday’s group split up today. But that doesn’t mean I had the walk to myself – as I left Ponferrada, I ran into American Nicole, whom I met in Rabanal. We started chatting and ended up walking the whole day together. Her pace is much slower than mine but I was enjoying the conversation and the pace so I didn’t mind. …
The route today was mostly road walking but it was minor roads. However, enough cars pass by so it was still important to pay attention. …It became more country roads/paths once past Cacabelos. Views were lovely and expansive, the sun was shining, the vineyards were showing promise, and the wildflowers were in bloom. It was about 4pm before we strolled into Villafranca, the latest day I’ve ever had (outside the snowstorm day). All the albergues were full but one of the hospiteleros got us in touch with a hotel in town and then drove us over. Our room was big, the bathroom huge, and it passed the bedbug check. But, the hallway… Oh, that hallway – it immediately put me in mind of, “Redrum!” I wish I had a photo of it but the lighting was so awful, that it just didn’t turn out. …
Wandered the town – randomly found a street called Calle Sucubo that had some weird romantic postings on the walls. I guess I know what people do here?
Less than 200km to go now!
That picture of the poppies is so beautiful! It must’ve felt so nice to have under 200 km left!
Seriously disappointed about the lack of picture of that hallway though…
haha, me too 🙁
It’s been really fun reading about your journey. I’ve read every post.
Thanks 🙂 I am glad you are enjoying it! Only one more week of it left – went by quickly!
I’ll bet it was fun for you reliving it again.
Yup. I’m actually not a fan of keeping a journal but I’m glad I did for the Camino as it has been amusing to read it again!
